The Information Technology Department of Oromia State University College of Science and Technology was formed in 2005 with   two lecturers. Information Technology Department brings out students the main features, uses and theory of computer. The department basically acquires students with the why and how of computer software. 

In meet gating the responsibilities of the university, the department adopts its own mission. The mission of the Department of Information Technology is promoting technologies and quality of life through education, research and innovation that integrates technologies and life sciences in a global context.

Currently, the department enrolled 223 students in regular and extension programs.
