The School of Business & Economics sets its educational direction on producing competent, globally-minded professions to be equipped with the theoretical and practical knowledge of business and economics sciences and with full awareness of their social responsibility to become future leaders.

The School has been producing a number of entrepreneurs, economic experts, government policy makers, as well as scholars who are actively engaged in every sector of our society. The educational objective of the school is to equip students with entrepreneurial mind set, business opportunity identification and an economist’s view point and the right understanding of economic phenomena, ultimately encouraging them to practice the science to solve economic and social problems.

Indeed, these academic programs are designed to address the rapidly evolving needs of today’s world, an economic inflation, ultimate utilization of resource and unemployment problems. The school has three departments currently offering first degree program at different learning centers. Namely; Business management and Entrepreneurship, Economics and Development Finance and Agribusiness and Value chain management.

1.   Department of Business Management and Entrepreneurship

The university has designed curriculum for degree program in “Business Management and Entrepreneurship to alleviate the existing skill gap in leading small and micro business enterprises and encourage the learners to consider self-employment and enterprise creation as a career choice. A Bachelor's Degree program in Business Management and Entrepreneurship mainly focuses on the areas of management, and the entrepreneurial skills needed to either start a business or play an important role in managing the existing one. Business Management & Entrepreneurship courses cover areas of management, marketing, financing and accounting and business law.

              Objectives of the Program

  þ  1.To offer functional education for the learners that will enable them establish and manage new and existing enterprises,

  þ 2. To prepare students for self-employment and careers in small business,

 3. Provide the graduate with adequate training that will enable them to be creative and innovative in identifying novel business opportunities,

  þ 4. To nurture the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation among the community, and venturing practice through education, research and outreach, and

  þ 5. To enable learners create employment opportunities etc.

2.      Department of Economics and Development Finance

It is the fact that, the required active and productive human capital can be produced and molded through quality education. Furthermore, the following underlying situations justify the reasons for launching the degree program entitled: “Economics and Development Finance.” So as to produce citizens who are able to make economic and financial analysis, engaged in efficient utilization of scarce resources, explain economic problems and provide solutions (economic policies) in a way that the society desires to ensure the sustainability of the reforms and other development programs in the region and beyond are inspiring factors to launches the program.

          Objectives of the Program

y    1. To equip students with a solid knowledge of economic theory as applied to development issues, finance issues, natural resources, and other socio-economic issues concerning the developing countries in general and the region in particular;

y   2. To produce graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding of the functions and operations of finance in various fields of the economy, as well as the role the financial sector plays in the development of the region;

3. To produce graduates which help in alleviating the country’s problems in finance and economic development;

y    4. To produce students with the quantitative and theoretical tools for a successful career in finance with potential employers such as investment and commercial banks, pension funds, consulting firms, and policy-oriented organizations; etc.


     Agribusiness and Value Chain Management

Ethiopia is one of the developing countries whose economy is largely reliant on the agricultural sector. So, giving attention and special focusing on agriculture and similar/interrelated/ fields again and again is the only alternative measure to move the economy of the country upward.

Agricultural science curricula are one of the tools that used to give orientations for farmers and mould the citizens in modern agricultural approach, direct the experts on how to implement their professional practice. From these curricula Agricultural Business and value chain Management is the precise subject that not only informs but also inculcates achievable Agricultural Business and value chain information and leads anybody who refers it on the correct direction to development.

               Objectives of the Program

1. To prepare well-rounded agribusiness and value chain management graduates who are equipped with analytical, quantitative, managerial and human relations skills to make sound and responsible decisions;

2. To develop agribusiness and value chain management graduates who are able to identify management and organizational problems, analyze and map agribusiness value chains, isolate critical factors, generate feasible alternatives and, after critical thinking and analysis, come up with the most appropriate solution;

3.To develop business graduates who are aware of the existing and possible new reforms so as to ensure quality and attractive services to the consumers etc.
